"Maiden Phoenix Rising" - The Foundation 1984 fanfiction

A seriously shivering scene from The Foundation 1984, ep 9

Sik Sik glared in disbelief at her lover.

"Look, if I still love Kong Fung, I don't have to hide it from you. I'd just leave you and go to Kong Fung instead!" Seeing how Li Sai Man still glared back also in disbelief, she vented our her frustration. "You have the rights to be angry at me for keeping you in the dark, but don't you ever doubt my feelings for you!" Since Sai Man still didn't respond, she stomped her foot and said, "I'll leave now if you hate me so much!"

With that, she turned to leave. Yet, her arm was held tightly by Sai Man. Forcefully yet slowly, the Second Prince turned her to face him. Then, he said quietly, very intensely and possessively,

"I want you to remember this: you can never leave me. Not. Ever."

She never saw him with such a blaze in his eyes before. It scared her that his love to her was so fierce and possessive. Yet, when he slowly embraced her, still possessively, a smile appeared on her beautiful face. She had never wanted to leave him anyway for quite some time, so this arrangement seemed fine for her.

After a while, she felt he had embraced her long enough, longer than what was appropriate. She was wondering if she should disentangle herself from him when he suddenly made a space between them, only to whip her back into him and kiss her on the mouth. Fiercely, possessively, with a large dose of jealousy. He never kissed her before. He did try to do that last year, but she shyly avoided him, and he never asked again. She had since wondered if it was okay for her to ask him to kiss her. So, when he now did kiss her, a part of her was pleasingly surprised. She tried to return in kind, but his kiss was too forceful, she couldn't even tell where to begin reciprocating it. Then, as she felt that she was about to faint from lack of air, he suddenly stopped kissing her.

He put her on an arm's length, observing her without words. Only his eyes, his usually jovial eyes, were now red, blazing with primal fire from within. Sik Sik was suddenly scared, but before she said what she felt, Sai Man suddenly dragged her into her room. There, he closed the door, spun around, and approached Sik Sik slowly, like a lion approaching his prey. Scared, Sik Sik walked a few steps back until her back was against a chair. Then, unsolicited, Sai Man kissed her again. His kisses were more urgent and demanding this time, he didn't only cup her head, he also locked one of his arms around her body and his other arm squeezed her arm so tightly. It hurt her, so she groaned. He didn't seem to hear her, or if he did, he might have misinterpreted it as passion, for he later squeezed one of her endowments. That truly surprised her, such that she did the only thing she could: she slapped him. Not hard enough, but it stunned them both.

"Sai Man! What are you doing?!" Anger and fear emerged from within her, her voice trembled. "What are you trying to do...?"

A mist seemed to lift up from Sai Man's eyes. He shook his head once, then twice in disbelief. Then, slowly he sat on the chair, stuttering his apologies. "I'm sorry... I...I got carried away..." He looked at Sik Sik, her lips red and her hair tousled due to his passion. "When I learned that you used to be Kong Fung's lover, jealousy took me. I... I just wanted to have you, because no one else can have you!"

"But, Sai Man..." Sik Sik slowly sat across him. Not only that she was still scared of him, now she was also scared of herself, for she suddenly felt a strange desire to let him have her. "I truly don't love him anymore. I only love you now..." Her eyes fell on his lips, red from the passion of kissing her. A strange fire suddenly rose from within her. She looked away. "I really do..."

It was a while before Sai Man responded. With difficulty, with such a burden, for he was actually trying to suppress his passion. "I'm sorry... I'll...I'll just leave you now. Perhaps I'll come again tomorrow."

He rose and quickly walked to the door. If he stayed for another minute, he'd ravage her again, for he was acutely aware of her sweet red lips, the sweet scent of her hair, and the intoxicating scent of her body. Yet, just before he reached for the door, she stopped him.

"Wait." When she thought he didn't hear her, she rose from the chair and took a few step towards him. "Please wait." He stopped, but he didn't turn to face her.

"If I didn't stop you just now..." She hesitated before resuming, "what would you do?" He didn't answer, thus she took another step forward. "What were you going to do just now?"

That made him chuckle. An almost sinister chuckle. "Sik Sik," he turned to face her, his eyes red with passion, his face dead serious. "You asked a person who loved you what he'd do to you just now? Can't you tell?!"

She blushed. "I... I've heard stories of what a man and a woman do when they are alone..."
He fought the urge to kiss her right then. "That was exactly what i was going to do. Good thing you stopped me." He spun to leave. "I'll see you tomorrow."

Yet, her hand stopped him. She should have not stopped him, particularly not that way.
"Don't go." He heard her pleading. "Please stay..."

He clenched his fists, for he wanted her so badly. "Sik Sik, if I stay for another minute, I won't be able to stop myself."

She found herself, with short breaths, saying, "Then don't stop yourself."

He spun quickly to face her, but his visions were so blurred with passion that he almost lost himself. "I'll take you. You'll transform. You'll never be the same." He inhaled, trying to win a losing battle against his own passion. "We will never be the same."

"That is fine," she said despite her fears, for now she realised she also wanted him. "We need to change. I want you to believe i am yours."

He locked the door and took a step closer, his face intense with danger. "I don't know if I can be gentle."

"I know your heart," she simply said, despite her trembling voice.

He hastily closed the curtains and spun her to face him. His breathing became more erratic as he grabbed her by her arms. "You'll regret it."

"I won't-" he had kissed her. Passionately, possessively. Filled with jealousy that was soon replaced with urgency, he took her. He claimed her as he ravished her lips and her neck and moulded her bosoms. A part of him wanted to go gentle with her, for this was definitely her first time. But that part lost to a larger part of him that wanted to claim her as his. Thus, he dismantled her robes as he did his own. Thus, he took her to her own bed and marked her as his. Soon, fire took over him, and he lost himself in her warmth.

As for Sik Sik, the moment Sai Man kissed her again, her visions blurred. She lost sense of time and place. She felt like she was suddenly being lifted to the air, a humid and hot air, yet comfortable at the same time. She felt like flying into the evening sky, melting into the sky to be with the Waiver and the Shepherd. Then she saw a maiden phoenix. The magical bird rose her orange wings and soared into the sky, chased by a red blazing dragon. She stopped and welcomed the dragon in her embrace. She let the dragon's claws raked her fiery back and rode her red wings. She spun and wrapped her wings in the length of the dragon, embracing it tight with her passion. The dragon soared and roared in primal sound, blazing into the sky, bringing the phoenix with him. The two mythological creatures intertwined their bodies with each other, higher and higher, tighter and wilder, like creeping plants trying to win the sunlight.

Then fireworks cracked the evening sky with heavenly blaze. The phoenix uttered her piercing cry and shed her maiden blood as the dragon burst his fire in her, his length convulsed within her. Then the whole sky shook due to the tremor of their passions, the stars exploded in supernova. Thus the demigods were jealous and begged to be reborn on Earth, just to taste a drop of this ecstasy.

Phoenix rising

Moments later, as the dragon disentangled himself from the phoenix, Li Sai Man realised something. He had said that this encounter would change Sik Sik. But the truth is, it had changed him. He had claimed her...but in the process, it was she who had claimed him instead. Now he was at her disposal, now he'd die if he lose her, for she had taken more than half of his self with her.

And later, as senses began to descend upon her again and her body stopped trembling like an earthquake, Sik Sik turned to see her lover laying unabashedly uncovered next to her. He opened his eyes, half covered by his own tousled hair, and smiled before kissing her hand gently. "Thank you, Wife..." He whispered and hugged her with one hand. Sik Sik was stunned to hear Sai Man calling her his wife, such that she didn't reply for a while. When she eventually said, "I love you, Husband..." he was already drifting to sleep, but he still heard that.

The lavender curtains billowed gently, caressed by a gentle evening breeze. Sister Li might be searching for her for dinner soon. Sik Sik usually didn't want to make her surrogate sister waiting. Yet for once, Sik Sik didn't care. She was thinking of making an excuse about Sai Man taking her out for a sightseeing when sleep claimed her.

And the truth is, Li Sai Man had indeed taken Sik Sik to an unforgettable sightseeing. And she had now changed. The maiden Phoenix had been aroused, and she would never go back.

AWESOME! YOU ARE AWESOME! I will comment more later of course. Just had to tell you this first! Just awesome!

Hahaha!!! Thanks, TinyGin, will wait for your additional comment!

Good imagination. However, it's not the story of THE FOUNDATION. Lee Sai Man never love her that much. He love the throne more than he ever love her. If he had the second chance, third chance, ... he would still choose to kill her for the throne.

Thank you for your cmments. Yes, of course i took a big creative licence here with the story, for perhaps LSM would still kill her. But I haven't seen the indication that he'd still kill her, given the second chance (i had a long though about it). He was very remorseful after Kong Fung and Lok Wan left him. He looked at the throne morosely also after the coronation. It wasn't the look of someone who was satisfied with what he did.

I suppose, there are two large thoughts on this. One is that LSM would still kill SS given the second chance, and the other one where LSM regretting what he did and wouldn't do it again. We seem to belong to the two different schools of thought, and that's very fine from creative perspective.

Thanks again for visiting.

Ok, ok so much to say and comment on! Let me try to organize my thoughts...

First, this was just terrific. You've brought my fantasy to life! I've long thought that LSM and SS's first sexual encounter could happen after this argument in which LSM is clearly very jealous. My vision is slightly different but no matter...you've done an amazing job of keeping them both in character. It makes the remaining moments between them just a bit more sensual and intense in my opinion. You can just sense the devastation LSM must have felt when he ultimately had to kill her. I do believe he loved her; his duty to his country however won in the end...sigh.

"Fiercely, possessively, with a large dose of jealousy." Nice! He was soooo jealous which lead to his crazy possessive behavior. This makes me swoon (excuse me while I hide my face)!!!!

"Then don't stop yourself." Love this line! SS has realized she wants to be his in every way and what a way to give him the green light! It really brings across her growing desire for him without losing her innocence and shyness. Love it.

Oh my goodness. His repeated "You're mine!" claims during a good portion of their lovemaking is what I also envisioned in my head countless times. He's delirious with lust, desire, and most of all, jealousy. A very potent combination indeed! Some may think this is too possessive and would be afraid. I'd like to think that SS finds it very intoxicating and a turn on...

This is truly awesome and I thank you for making my fantasies a reality! Can you now imagine the many more encounters they'll have? I'd like to think that they have changed and are even more in love. The lust and desire have been unleashed. Perhaps he visits her nightly? Excuse me while I go and dream about the nights which follow. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge...

Hehehehe... thanks a lot, TinyGin, for the warm appreciation! The stats showed me that you're not the only one visiting the AsianFanfic site, your comments are the only one I receive. So, thanks!

"My vision is slightly different but no matter"

Pray tell, what is your vision of LSM/SS first encounter? I'm curious now! ^_^

I do believe that, while LSM's possessiveness was borderline unhealthy, but Sik Sik actually found it interesting. She actually smiled to herself as LSM embraced her possessively after that argument. I'd certainly distance myself from someone like LSM, but I believe, given the chance, SS was the person who could have grounded her.

Do you think LSM would not kill SS, given the second chance? If he could travel back in time? I think he would try to find another way for the throne. He wouldn't give up on the throne, but he'd keep her with him too, now that he learned how lonely life without her.

"The lust and desire have been unleashed. Perhaps he visits her nightly? Excuse me while I go and dream about the nights which follow. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge..."

LOL! Excuse me while I use your idea for another fanfiction. Not the R or M rated this time, but I have actually used this fanfiction as part of another TF fanfiction I'm working on. Nothing graphic, but this story became a continuity.

anyway, yeah, so I'll post another LSM/SS fan-fiction, rated S this time for "Safe"... but you gave me an idea for a paragraph...

TinyGinTX said...

Hi! Needless to say I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for your next fanfic (even if it's rated S)! I'm curious to see their interactions now they've truly become lovers.

In my mind, when they're in public I can see her being even more shy and reserved when interacting with him (in an effort, albeit futile, to hide from others their level of intimacy). On the other hand, he would regard her so lovingly and become so attached to the point he easily reveals to others their level of intimacy. I envision his eyes continually trained on her. This is the effect their lovemaking has had on him. He is obviously head over heels for her!

Hmmm, your other reviewer makes an interesting point. What would LSM do if given another chance? If, and it's an if we have to really believe to be a fact, killing her is the ONLY way to get to the throne I think he would do it again. If he had chosen her over the throne, he would be miserable. Let's face it. He has a very high sense of duty to his country and his people. This is shown throughout the series. There is one scene in particular where he is shown to be so distressed over the fate of his country that not even SS can help him out of his funk. He would be riddled with guilt day in and day out if his brother was at the throne and his country and fellow people suffered as a result. In this scenario, having SS alive and by his side would not console him. I could even see him resenting her. Without doubt their relationship would be strained.

Now that's not to say he couldn't, given a second chance, find some way to deceive his uncle into believing SS is dead and out of the picture. This is the genius of fanfiction. Once he secures the throne he could bring her back and by then I don't believe his uncle could do much about it.

However, when it comes to the actual series, I do believe LSM makes the only decision he can. I don't necessarily think he loved his country more than SS. He most likely thought being ruler was of the utmost importance. The writers of TF knew this as well. They knew adding a fictional love interest could not and would not alter history and therefore took this creative license. My two cents.

My version...it really doesn't differ much from yours! The only thing that's really different is that while LSM struggles to control his passion and walk away before doing something regrettable, SS desires him so much at this point that she is willing to do whatever is necessary to make him stay. He is not the one that derobes her. She is. Picture this if you can...he is on the verge of leaving fully convinced it was a mistake dragging her to her room and almost forcing himself upon her. She would hate him and he would find himself despicable. While trying to explain this to SS before taking his leave, SS takes matters into her own hands and begins to slowly strip. She's scared, shy, tentative (she doesn't know the art of seduction), but at the same time fueled by his passion and her own desire to be with him. He of course is speechless and mesmerized by her actions. Once she reveals one highly aroused bosom he loses control and proceeds to ravish her...as per your fanfiction. Voilà, my slightly different version. ^_^

Arrghhh!! TinyGin! You made me fan myself when I read your alternative description of SS's initiative! (blush...) Gosh! (fan self...)

And oh my dear, you gave me another paragraph to write in the ff I'm working on now when I read this:

"In my mind, when they're in public I can see her being even more shy and reserved when interacting with him (in an effort, albeit futile, to hide from others their level of intimacy). On the other hand, he would regard her so lovingly and become so attached to the point he easily reveals to others their level of intimacy. I envision his eyes continually trained on her. This is the effect their lovemaking has had on him. He is obviously head over heels for her!"

Anyway, ahem. Yes, let's get back to the matter of LSM killing SS (that made me blue for like, months!).

I suppose, the other basic argument was whether LSM did that because of greed for throne, or because he strongly felt he could be a better ruler for his people if he got the throne. The two reasons are so different. One is greed, the other one is the desire to help people, though perhaps there was hubris as well for him thinking that he'd be the best ruler for his people back then.

" There is one scene in particular where he is shown to be so distressed over the fate of his country that not even SS can help him out of his funk."

I remember that scene. TBH, I was more focused on being disappointed at LSM getting darker and darker every episode, such that he'd eradicate Kong Fung's school and eventually killing SS, that I often ignored some scenes where he actually was indeed concerned about his people. I think I need to re-examine those scenes again.

"when it comes to the actual series, I do believe LSM makes the only decision he can. I don't necessarily think he loved his country more than SS. He most likely thought being ruler was of the utmost importance. The writers of TF knew this as well. They knew adding a fictional love interest could not and would not alter history and therefore took this creative license. My two cents."

Yeah, I have been grudgingly struggling with the route that the TF writers took, but I also understood where they came from. Having said that, I'm taking my own creative licence too for LSM and SS post Maiden Phoenix Rising. Merging history and official series and fanfiction is not easy, I can tell you! But I hope I can get somewhere quite meaningful...

Did the series give a subtle hint that Li Sai Man and Sik Sik had an intimate relationship? Lok Wan blurted out something about SS during a conversation with her brother LSM, whose reaction was kind of sheepish. It didn't catch my attention until I re-watched it many years later.

Icha said...

Thanks for the comment. I'm not entirely sure myself, so I may have to rewatch that moment. Which episode was that?

If it was SS who was sheepish and blushing, I tend to disregard it because SS was easily blushing for anything... but if LSM was sheepish, that's a different thing...

I watched the original 20 episodes of the series, so it was in Ep. 15 after Sik Sik and Li Sai Man had the huge argument. SS left the Li Mansion to wander in the rain and fainted in front of Ho Tien Mun. Lok Wan tried to persuade LSM to reconcile with SS, but was unaware that it was all his plan to push SS to go back to Kong Fung. It was at the beginning of the scene when LW complained that SS was with KF at Ho Tien Mun. LSM acted so indifferent that LW blurted out that SS is his person/woman/property (Cantonese translation). LSM replied rather sheepishly, “Who told you?” It was a very brief subtle moment as LW continued to badger him to get SS back. Then in his princely demeanor (as if he really needed to convince himself to believe his own words), LSM said SS is not his anyone and that she has the right to choose whoever she wants to be with. Regarding LW’s little outburst, it could just mean that everyone around them knew that LSM and SS were a couple. However, I thought that in wuxia stories, when an unmarried woman has been intimate with a man, she is described as being the man's person/woman. For example, in The New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung (1984), Miss Kam angrily reminded Wu Tit Far that he needs to be on her side because she belongs to him and he needs to stand up for her (referring to their drunken night at the beach and they supposedly slept together). Lok Wan's character is very observant and a bit impulsive that it would make sense that she would be the one to reveal this type of info.

When I read your fan fiction and noticed the little scene mentioned above, I thought it was highly plausible that LSM and SS were lovers in every sense of the word. They loved each other so much that it hurts, LOL. LSM had a very strong attraction to SS from the moment he nearly tripped over her at the Li Mansion. He was the guy who was so bold to try to kiss her during one of their first real dates. Throughout the series, Lok Wan remarked how affectionate and attentive her 2nd brother was towards SS. LSM either had his arm around SS or his hands holding her shoulders even in public. He always had some type of physical contact with SS. When SS was tending to an injured LSM after he protected her during an attack by assassins, they were very much like a married couple (even in front of an uncomfortable Chiu Yi). They were very loving and familiar.

Thank you for this! I think these subtleties would be lost to one who doesn't speak Cantonese (I want to learn it one day...), hence thank you for telling me about it.

I agree that LSM is a very possessive lover, he practically tells the whole world that SS is hers (and she doesn't mind his possessiveness either). Thus his killing her hurts me/us a lot...

"When SS was tending to an injured LSM after he protected her during an attack by assassins, they were very much like a married couple (even in front of an uncomfortable Chiu Yi). They were very loving and familiar."

Yes, that was the pinnacle of their relationship. LSM thought CY was SS when CY entered the room, and SS pretended to sulk when LSM didn't want to take a rest. That was really heart-warming...

You're welcome! I agree with an earlier comment that SS would to try to hide their level of intimacy. On the other hand, LSM unintentionally discloses it because he wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to SS. He is a very rational man, but not when it comes to his heart (at least in the beginning). He got drunk and disorderly when he found out that he had misjudged SS and her love for him. That was one of my favorite scenes because LSM realizes that HE loves SS and it hits him hard. I also agree that SS finds his possessiveness interesting. She bloomed with his love. She found confidence with her own heart and had faith in LSM. SS didn't interfere with his royal politics and strategies, but LSM needed her presence. She completes him.

Every time I watched The Foundation, I catch something that I previously missed. I noticed the word "ai" or love was used after Sik Sik's death. Prior to that, everyone used "zhong yi" (in Cantonese) or like. We understand that like and love are used interchangeably, but "ai" is definitely a stronger word. Kneeling in front of her grave, LSM told SS that she was the only one he "ai" and no one could ever replace her. Why didn't he tell her before he killed her???
