"Eyes on Me" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV

"Eyes on Me" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV from Icha74 on Vimeo.

I have loved "Eyes on Me" from Final Fantasy VIII since I found it in 2014. Then I stopped listening to it until recently, when I thought the theme would suit Song Siu Ching's feelings for Chor Lau Heung. I think I was right. "Eyes on Me" by Faye Wong, music composed by Nobuo Uematsu, English lyrics by Kako Someya. The English lyrics are below the break. I also included the original MV of "Eyes on Me" for FF VIII here.

Enjoy!

Update 15 Aug'16: The Dailymotion version has been deleted by Dailymotion; I guess because of the song (Final Fantasy copyright?), not because of TVB. Dang... This is not a problem for those with access to Vimeo, but readers in Indonesia will have a problem with that, because Vimeo is banned in Indonesia (palm/face). Perhaps I need to make a Tudou account to upload this video? YouTube is out of question cos this is a video, not a collection of stills. Dang...

"L-O-V-E" - Michael Miu & Barbara Yung wuxia MV

I love Olivia Ong's rendition of Nat King Cole's L-O-V-E, hence I thought this song would fit a still Michael/Barbara wuxia MV that I want to make. It apparently does. The cheerful tone prompts me to mostly select images of Michael and Barbara smiling or laughing in their three wuxia series, i.e. the Foundation 1984, Fearless Duo 1984, and Chor Lau Heung 1984. God knows when I'll be able to watch the sub version of United We Stand, so until we find it, I'll just have to recycle the materials from the three series. I hope you like the MV. I upload it into YouTube, Vimeo and Dailymotion.

Have a nice week ahead!

"Ripples" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV

"Ripples" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV from Icha74 on Vimeo.

I was expecting myself to continue working on my first LOCH 1983 MV last night (on Yeung Hong vs Wong Yung!), but then my Spotify suddenly aired a song that I didn't even realise I had in my iPad. Upon having its romantic melodies filling my lounge, I was so hooked that I immediately searched for its meaning. Upon understanding what the song is about, I delayed my LOCH 1983 project and chose to work on the new song instead. Since the song fits Chor Lau Heung's love story with Song Siu Ching, here's the 18th CLH MV. The ballad is so beautiful, I can imagine Chor Lau Heung singing it to Song Siu Ching if he was a singer. In fact, this song feels like a love song from Chor tai-gor to Siu Ching...

The song is "Ripples" (Lin Yi, 漣漪) by the late Danny Chan. I felt a loss that I didn't even know his talent, and yet he passed away long ago in 1993. But this song truly makes me happy (I smiled almost all the time while making it), so this MV is dedicated to you, Danny Chan. The MV is of course also dedicated to our lovely Barbara and Michael, of course. May the song brings you happiness as it did, and still does, to me. Traditional characters, Yale romanisation, English and Indonesian translations after the break. I also include the still version for YouTube this time.

"Love Is Not Easy" - a Michael Miu/Barbara Yung wuxia MV

"Love Is Not Easy" - a Michael Miu/Barbara Yung wuxia MV from Icha74 on Vimeo.

Featuring Jinny Ng's song with the same title from Line Walkers 2014, this MV combines love stories of Li Sai Man & Chun Sik Sik (The Foundation 1984), Chor Lau Heung & Song Siu Ching (The New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung 1984), and Szeto Man Mo & Lam Chor Yin (Fearless Duo 1984). This song is for my dear friend Sandy Le at the MB Network.

The artist of the first artwork is anon (I use it for my banner). Cynthia (MB Network) made the gorgeous artworks/wallpapers for The Foundation 1984 and Chor Lau Heung 1984. The Fearless Duo artwork was taken from Tomoyo262's Fearless Duo YouTube MV.  I modified the English translation from here; the Yale romanisation was from here; they are below the break.

"Kindred Spirits" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV

"Kindred Spirits" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV from Icha74 on Vimeo.

I first found Tanya Chua from her “Love is Beautiful” a few years ago when I was watching a Nicky Wu/Liu Shi Shi MV. I didn’t realise at that time that it was Tanya’s song that was used as the background music. Recently I used “Love is Beautiful” for an MV for Barbara Yung’s birthday. Ever since, I’ve been listening to Tanya’s songs via Spotify. That was when I found “異類的同類 (Yìlèi de tónglèi)”. The official title is “Strange Species” from her latest album Aphasia. Although the songs in Aphasia are different from Tanya’s previous offerings, I still like the album for its different concept (I’m not the only one, see this review, for instance). When I read one of Tanya’s interviews about 異類的同類 and Aphasia, I realised why the official title includes the word “species”.

Despite its modern terminology, I like the techno rhythm of “Strange Species”. For some reasons I thought it would make a fine Chor Lau Heung MV, but some tweaks needed to be done for the effects. After I translated the lyrics with Meenchee’s kind help, I realised that the song fit CLH/SSC perfectly. I still had to use some effects for this MV below, and I have very limited effects at my disposal with Windows Live Movie Maker. Nonetheless, I’m pretty pleased with the resulting MV. I hope you like it too. Lyrics and translations are below the break.

"The Wandering Life Before You" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV

I've replaced the MV yesterday (30.04) due to mis-spelling in Ibuki Satsuki's name.

"The Wandering Life Before You" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV from Icha74 on Vimeo.

"The New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung" 1984 has been the only version of Chor Lau Heung that I've ever watched. However, a few weeks ago I came across the OST of the 1979 Chor Lau Heung, starring by Adam Cheng (and OST sung by the same actor). Now, as with many multi-version series, fans of CLH 1984 have their own opinions of CLH 1979 and vice versa. Just like fans of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice 1995 vs Pride and Prejudice 2005. Or Ben Affleck's Batman vs Christian Bale's Batman. Etc etc etc. Now, although I haven't watched CLH 1979, I do plan to buy the DVD hence I can have my own informed opinion about it. I do like the 1979 OST, and I think that should be enough to start watching the series. Lyrics, translation and the original OST MV are below the break.

“Love Makes a Fool of None” - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV

"Love Makes a Fool of None" - A Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV from Icha74 on Vimeo.

I was so excited to find the third OST of Chor Lau Heung 1984 a few days ago that I just had to make another CLH MV with that song. The song was titled 情到濃時休說痴 (Love Makes a Fool of None), performed by Liza Wang, composed by Zhao Wenhai and lyrics by WH Tang. This MV is the first MV using the OST of CLH 1984 that I've made, so it's very special to me. Please note that the song ended abruptly from the original source, hence I had to improvise with the last bit. I also refrained from using the usual ending scene of CLH examining the hairpin cos I've done that scene so many times. In lieu, I used the scene where CLH walked forlornly a good few meters ahead of his adopted sisters after SC took a French leave on Ep 5. Although that scene was so early in the CLH series, I can picture Chor tai-gor walking in that manner, if not worse, as he left SC in the Palace in Ep 40.

Lyrics in Jyutping and translation are below the break. Translation was a joint effort between my friends Meenchee, Li Qian and myself. I used the MDBG site to obtain the Jyutping. I dropped the numbers in the Jyutping, and I totally made a guess for the romanisation, hence as usual, please feel free to correct me.

Hope you enjoy the MV as I do!

The 3rd OST of Chor Lau Heung 1984 (!!)

Okay folks, remember back in October 2015 (yes, last year) when I had the opening and closing themes of Chor Lau Heung 1984 translated? Back then, I already realised the presence of the third OST, which seemed to be sung by Liza Wang only (cos it was a female voice, and Liza was the singer for the CLH 1984 OSTs). Although I couldn't find the third track, I did note that some episodes ended with the third track (particularly Ep 30 where Daddy Emperor teased his cute daughter re: Chor tai-gor). But I almost gave up on finding the third track, cos it was so long ago, and in those days tracks were not preserved as well as during the internet era.

Then today I was sleuthing the net for the CLH 1979 track. Yes, the Adam Cheng version, cos it was definitely a cool track (one day I will make a CLH 1984 MV with the 1979 OST). Then...lo and behold, I landed on SPC Forum where the link to the third CLH 1984 track has been there since 2010! Palm/face...

"Undying Love" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV

"Undying Love" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV from Icha74 on Vimeo.

Months ago I listened to "Undying Love" (情義兩心堅), one of the OST of the Return of Condor Heroes (ROCH) 1983 sung by the lovely Teresa Cheung. I didn't realise at first that it was the ROCH OST, for I listened to an MV for The Foundation 1984 (a beautiful but saaaad MV at that). When I realised that it was the ROCH OST, and also the meaning of the lyrics, I totally fell in love with the song. Recently, I thought it would be nice to have a Chor Lau Heung MV with this song, particularly because the meaning of the song was actually uplifting, and hence rather suits the love story between Chor Lau Heung and Song Siu Ching. Plus, I have subconsciously associated this song with sadness because my recent re-introduction of this song was through a (beautiful but) tragic MV of The Foundation. Hence, consider this clearing and replacing my sad palate for a more cheerful interpretation of the song (as it should be, perhaps).

I found the lyrics from MojimI adapted the translation from YouTuber Guo Jing (his translation can be found here). I obtained the Jyutping Cantonese romanisation using this site. Since I don't speak Cantonese or read traditional Chinese characters (or simplified characters for that matter), I'm bound to make a lot of mistakes, so correct me when you spot any mistakes.

Translation is below the break. I uploaded the MV to both Vimeo and Dailymotion. The beautiful magnolia paintings were painted by Ella Saridi from Suibokuga Etsy. Hope you like it. And pay attention to min 1:40 when Chor tai-gor tried to catch Siu Ching but the girl kept running to Fell Cut. Chor's helpless expression as he turned to Wu Tit Fa was priceless!!

"Turning" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV

I always wanted to do a CLH 1984 MV with a new age piece as the music background, but I doubted whether it would fit the series. But when I found out about "Turning" by Italian-American Suzanne Ciani and Taiwanese Chyi Yu (Qi Yu), I considered it would fit Siu Ching's feelings to Chor Lau Heung. Of course, the "someone else is in [his] eyes"in this context was not a woman; rather, it was his own free wandering life that made him left the Palace and the girl he loved. To me, this song fits Siu Ching's original wish that Chor Lau Heung would leave the wandering life in favour of a royal life, but eventually the girl realised what was truly important, and dashed towards CLH's boat to be with him.

"The New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung" 1984 is the property of TVB Hong Kong; no copyright infringement intended. The MV is uploaded only to Vimeo. The beautiful winter snapshot was taken from Pinterest.

The "Turning" lyrics and the beautiful original MV featuring Suzanne and Chyi Yu are below the break. I can't believe I wasn't aware of Suzanne Ciani and Chyi Yu until a few days ago! Palm/face! Chyi Yu's angelic voice lent some ethereal ambiance to "Turning". The fact that she is from Taiwan (although she sang an English song here) also made me think "Yeah, this piece should fit".

I hope you like this piece. Have a nice weekend!

"At Least I Have You" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV

This CLH Heung 1984 MV starts with some scenes from Ep 11. The MV mostly focuses on how CLH would sacrifice himself to protect Song Siu Ching because he loved her so, and how he was so scared to lose her (or got worried whenever she was upset). Several versions of "At Least I Have You" (Zhi Shao Hai You Ni) exist, and I do love some of them (Alan Tam's and Sandy Lam's in particular). But I picked Leslie Cheung's version because the tone  somehow fits with the MV theme. "The New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung" 1984 is the property of TVB Hong Kong; no copyright infringement intended. Dedicated to Michael Miu, Barbara Yung, and Leslie Cheung...

I've uploaded the MV to both Vimeo and Dailymotion, both with high res and lower res (higher res tends to be difficult to stream). Hope they remain there. Pinyin and English translation of the lyrics are below the break. The English translation was obtained from Diana S from YouTube. Enjoy!

Chor Lau Heung, the Detective (a CLH 1984 MV)

Chor Lau Heung and Wu Tit Fa sleuthing the Bat Prince, ep 35

Chor Lau Heung was not just famous for his gravity-defying skills and martial arts. He was first and foremost a great detective. This MV is an attempt to portray some sleuthing scenes in "The New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung 1984" series, in particular surrounding the mystery of the Bat Prince and the Viper Sword. The series is the property of TVB Hong Kong; no copyright infringement intended. Music is from my favourite spy/detective series; the BBC "Spooks" opening theme by Jennie Muskett. Also featuring Ying Man Lei (Kwok Fung), Song Siu Ching (Barbara Yung), Wu Tit Fa (Chan Wing Chun) and Yat Dim Hung (Austin Wai) as some of my favourite characters in the series.

I'm uploading the MV at Vimeo only because I don't want to risk my Dailymotion account being banned, since I'm using a Western music. Hence, MV is under the break. Hope you like it!

"I Am What I Am" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984

The following MV was inspired by Leslie Cheung's number "I Am What I Am". The song talks about his sexuality, which he decided to openly admit to the public. Here I apply a different context for Chor Lau Heung, in which he was just a normal man who fell in love with an amazing woman, yet their backgrounds were so different. Hence, when he had to choose between staying in the Palace with his love Song Siu Ching or returning to his wandering life despite her absence, he chose the latter. However, after returning to the Fragrant Boat, he still wished she was with him. The last scene depicts his disappointment upon learning that she wasn't coming (or so he thought....).

Music is "I Am What I Am" by the late Leslie Cheung. "The New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung" 1984 is the property of TVB Hong Kong. No copyright infringement intended. Yale romanisation and English translations are below the MVs. I took out the numbers for the MV subtitles, but I retained them here.

"A Love Before Time" - a Michael Miu/Barbara Yung wuxia MV

Happy New Year again, guys! Was hoping to catch some sleep today, but MB bugged me to produce a new MV. Hence, here's the three MB wuxia series of The Foundation, Chor Lau Heung and Fearless Duo. Music is from my favourite Coco Lee, A Love Before Time (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), composed by Tan Dun, music by Yoyo Ma. I was originally accustomed to the English version, but upon understanding the meaning of the Mandarin version, I love the latter more. I post here the two versions, Mandarin and English. Have uploaded them to Vimeo, and will do that with Dailymotion either soon or tomorrow. Gotta catch some New Year sleep...

The premise is similar to my Karmic Connection fanfiction, which apparently has drawn some good readerships. I have no LOCH footage, and I don't think I can do justice here, hence I only present The Foundation, Chor Lau Heung and Fearless Duo.  The Pinyin and English lyrics are below, in addition to being embedded in the MVs.

Mandarin version (updated from 02/1/16):

"The Moon Represents My Heart" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV

About two months ago, after listening to "The Moon Represents My Heart" sung beautifully by the late Teresa Teng, I wanted to make an MV of Chor Lau Heung and Song Siu Ching using this song. But somehow I wanted the singer to be a male, for I wanted it to represent Chor tai-gor’s feelings to Siu Ching. After all, our wanderer was a total helpless in expressing his thoughts! Then I came across Leslie Cheung’s version on this YouTube video. I fell in love with his beautiful rendition. However, that version was too live for the MV I wanted to make. After an easy searching in iTunes, I struck gold by finding another version sung by Leslie in his two albums (“I Am What I Am” and “Forever Leslie”). After a very painstaking process of converting the MP4 protected file, I finally gave up and searched online for any mp3 version uploaded by any kind soul. I struck gold again with this site. Hence, this MV.

"Jealousy" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV

I have been listening to Queen for the last few days, and two songs stuck in my head. The first song is Crazy Little Thing Called Love, which I plan to make an MV for Fearless Duo, hopefully this week. The second song is Jealousy, and I'm using it for this MV below. Story: Chor Lau Heung was jealous with Fell Cut because Song Siu Ching took care of the assassin and spent a lot of time with the latter. His jealousy was totally unfounded because Siu Ching was just sympathising with Fell Cut's plight, but Chor tai-gor didn't know this by the time he found her. "The New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung 1984" is the property of TVB Hong Kong. Music is Queen's Jealousy. I uploaded the MV to both  Dailymotion and Vimeo; both are embedded below. I hope the MV stays and you like it.

Edit 29 Dec15: Dailymotion blocked it (palm/face). Have tried Veoh but still having some technical problems. Will post it here once I have Veoh online. For now, just check the Vimeo embedded below the break.

"Storm" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 fighting scenes MV

I've always wanted to make a Chor Lau Heung MV containing the fighting scenes in the series, cos they're just pure gold! But I just got the hang of Windows Movie Maker like last week, hence the project never materialised until just now. I am pretty happy with the result, so I hope you are too. The music is "Storm" from my favourite Japanese shamisen-playing Yoshida Brothers, which is one of my favourite Yoshida music/songs actually (they have a lot!). Enjoy!

"You're beautiful" - a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV

Chor tai-gor doubting himself, Ep 27

Merry Christmas everyone, may Peace, Love and Health be upon us! Thanks to MB and/or CLH fans and/or Fearless Duo fans and/or the Foundation fans for keep returning to my blog; you guys are amazing!

Here's another CLH 1984 MV for you guys (or ladies?). Chor Lau Heung pondering about his love to Princess Wing Ching (aka Song Siu Ching) and how he is just not good enough for her. From "The Adventures of Chor Lau Heung" 1984, copyright by TVB Hong Kong. Music "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt. Video is under the break for stats purposes. I understand that it might feel weird to have a Chinese MV with English music, but I find James Blunt's song really befits Chor tai-gor's feelings and self-doubts (tho they wouldn't have a subway back in the Ming Dynasty!), so I just decided to use the song. Hope you like it.

I uploaded the video to Vimeo cos Dailymotion blocks it. I didn't even bother trying YouTube cos my CLH videos have been blocked several times...

“Alone Up the West Chamber” – a Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV

"Alone Up the West Chamber" Chor Lau Heung 1984 MV (Du Shang Xi Lou with Pinyin) from Icha74 on Vimeo.

Since I listened to Teresa Teng’s rendition of Li Yu’s “Du Shang Xi Lou” (“Alone Up the West Chamber”), I’ve always wanted to make this MV. I just finished it, and I hope it touches many MB/CLH fans. The story is about Song Siu Ching reminiscing on her love story with Chor Lau Heung after he took her hairpin and left her in the Palace. I found the theme of Du Shang Xi Lou befitting her loneliness upon Chor tai-gor’s departure.

Du Shang Xi Lou is part of Li Yu’s poem titled "Grief" (哀思 ai si), which in itself is the segment of "Happy reunion" (相見歡 xiang jian huan). The late, angelic Teresa sang Du Shang Xi Lou as part of her Dandan Youqing (Light Exquisite Feeling) album.  If you’re a fan of Teresa Teng, or just found out about her angelic voice, you should listen to this album.

The original lyric is from this site, while the English translation is from HKships4TeresaTeng2’s YouTube video of Dandan Youqing (Light Exquisite Feeling). The Pinyin lyrics are combined from the two sites. The English translation is below the break. Click here for my previous fanfiction on this theme.

Chor Lau Heung 1984 opening and closing themes

I tried to find the translation of CLH'84 opening and closing themes but failed, so I asked my Chinese Malaysian friend to translate it for me. Sompong from the YT video below provided me with the script of the opening theme and Min Chi translated it for me; hence my gratitude for both of them. I obtained the closing theme script from Musixmatch and Min Chi translated it again for me (thanks again!). I love both songs. I really dig the opening theme for it truly captured who Chor tai-gor was, while the closing theme reminds me of CLH/SSC relationship.

Edit 15 April 2016: Click this for the third OST of CLH 1984 and this for the MV I made from the OST!
